This Is How We Do It

(Photo booth pic taken at one of the Christmas parties we attended in Dec. '10. Just realized I was 4 months preggie & feeling great that night....)

Looking back...I wish I'd picked more props than a 'whatever' sign & the shades provided. I thought it was so cute though. haha.

Family Visit

Hey Y'all!

Last weekend, well actually last Friday, my sister came to the H-town to visit! Of course she came because of Khloa, but nonetheless we were so excited to see her! It's been probably over a year since I last saw her in person, considering the move, but it was like she lived down the street when she came. The reason I said last Friday because she was only able to stay for a day. But that day was so memorable.
First, she got in late afternoon on Friday, and KD, Khloa and I met her to pick her up from the bus station. BUS STATION?!?!?! Yes. See....she really, really wanted to see her new niece, and due to certain circumstances, she had to (brace yourself) fly into Austin, TX, catch a local metro bus to the Greyhound bus station, and catch the Greyhound to Houston! OMG! I truly commend my sister for going these lengths to get down here. This meant so much to us, so we definitely wanted to make sure her stay was welcomed with open arms. KD and I even said it would be extremely hard for us to go these lengths! My sister immediately took pictures of her niece and sat in the back of the ride playing with her the entire time. We talked the entire time while we were driving, about any and everything! We proceeded to Pappadeaux for dinner and ate really well as you can imagine.

From there we returned to our apartment and sat and talked literally all night. Because we are still new to this parenting thing, we were surprised and puzzled when my sister volunteered to feed, hold and change (repeat) Khloa while she was here. We were thinking, "should we take this opportunity to go to the club?". Of course we didn't, but it did feel good to not have to feed Khloa for once.

Unfortunately, she had to leave Saturday morning to return back home, and we got the pleasure of driving her to San Antonio for her return flight! Yes...San Antonio from Houston! We left out around 6am!! I don't even wake up this early for work! This time it was an even longer ride of wonderful conversation and Khloa slept the entire ride, which was very surprising. But then again, it appears she loves riding in the car because she goes to sleep every single time. What do you think?

yes, we still have stuff in boxes
at the San Antonio Houston Airport

Thanks again, sis for coming all the way from DC to visit, and we can't wait until you and your family comes back (hopefully later this year). KD and I were just talking about how this time I would like to cook for y'all instead of going out. We will have more time to visit Houston this next trip! See you soon!

I Just Lost a Good Friend

So this past Sunday, I decided to do something that would ultimately change my life. This change would not only require dedication and test my will power, but it would give me the opportunity to increase my focus on other things, such as our blog (shameless plug), the baby coming, and Criminal Minds. This change would also test our marriage...yes...our marriage!. So before I tell you what the change is, let me tell you how I got to this point....

When KD and I lived in the DC area, me and my old co-worker, and good friend Dwayne, decided to go to the mall on our lunch break as we would seldom do because we had a common interest in electronics, clothes, electonics..., and just hanging out. This was back in late 2009. While at the mall, this is where I met someone that would turn out to be another good friend. This soon to be good friend and I hit it off instantly. I was thrilled that my good friend officially became apart of my life. I've always wanted a friend like this; someone I can chill with throughout the week, even late at night.

But over time, I began spending too much time with my good friend. There were times I would neglect KD, and she and I would even have small spats because of this. But I told her, "I got this...I can spend quality time with you, and still have time to spend with my good friend". But deep down inside, I knew that it would be hard for me to do. This person gave me so much joy and satisfaction that it was hard to pull away and say "No. We will hang out another time".

But it wasn't just causing problems with KD and I. I found myself falling behind in weight loss. To this day, I still have not caught up to my weight loss goal. So I thought to myself, I can do this; I would temporary stop hanging out with my friend until I can put things back into perspective. I must first prioritize what's important, show discipline, and then I can put my friend in the proper place where my friend belongs. I told KD my plans and she said 'Thank God'!

So for about two months what would change my life is to end my friendship, temporarily...with my PS3.

Just until I get rid of my addiction.....Step 1...

Did you enjoy the return of The Game?

Yes, I admit it. I am a big fan of the TV show on BET The Game. When it first aired on The CW, I was in denial. I would watch a little of it and when KD asked me if I enjoyed it, I would always respond with "It's OK". But I am very excited that it has returned. More so, I enjoy it because this is something KD and I genuinely have in common.

But do you have a wife that was so enraged over that fact that a TV show was taken off the air, and then extremely overjoyed when hearing of its return after almost 2 years because ‘the fans’ brought it back, and then when the first episode of the new season airs, she becomes hysterical and states: “This show is taking me through too much. When they go through stuff, I go through stuff. So I’m done. I cannot watch anymore”? But just before the next episode airs, she is super excited again and she “Can’t wait to watch it”. Do you have a wife like this???

Well I do.

But I still love her. Can’t wait ‘til Tuesday gets here...

Welcome to....(In my most southern voice…)!

Houston Downtown Tunnel

So the place we decided to move, and the place I so greatfully received a job offer in due time is HOUSTON!!!!

We arrived in Houston about 1pm on September 1st, and can officially call it home sweet home. We were smiling from ear to ear when we arrived at the gate of our new apartment complex!!! See, this was a dream come true for us. This was 3+ years in the making. This meant we can finally start building our family and the past 3+ years all was in preparation for this very moment.

…Moment of clarity…

In retrospect, that road trip took a heavy toll on us!

We could not wait until we got here. I mean the long road trip was very taxing. The only places I will be driving are to work, and to get food from around the corner (I know...I'm over exaggerating…so what). But we arrived safely and the apartment we selected from DC, that we never saw in person, was indeed everything we needed. But the only problem is….we do not have any furniture!! See, to save money, we got rid of all our old furniture, because it was just not worth moving down here. But I do have my 46” TV and PS3, and oh….we had to buy a bed. So what more can we ask for?

Wait….there’s more…(I am just at September 1st….)

First Wedding Since Our Marriage

The wedding was beautiful this weekend. :-) The bride and groom looked amazing & we're so happy for them. The hubs and I had so much fun! :D

Here we are.....

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This was officially the first wedding we've attended since we jumped the broom. Of course, I thought about our wedding a lot while we were at the ceremony and reception. It brought back a lot of memories. :-) The best day of my life. :D A lot goes into planning everything & people that have never experienced it don't realize the stress of it all. It all boils down to one day that seems to go by so fast. The best advice I can give anyone planning a wedding is utilize Ebay, Etsy, & Craig's List for deals! We didn't pay full price for most things. More to come on what we did......Later ya'll.

My Husband Does the Sweetest Things. :-)

I put this in my status on Facebook, but I wanted to share it here on the blog. On Saturday, I ran a few errands. While I was out, Reign called me and told me he was out running. He wanted to know where I was so he could come meet me. He said he wanted to see me. Actually, he said "I was out running so I figured I might as well run to my baby." Instant butterflies. Yeah I still get them from his sweet somethings. ;-) Mind you, I was like 3-4 miles away from our house (i mean apartment).

So we met up in the parking lot of Dollar Tree and I noticed one of my earrings was missing. He went back to into DT, found the earring, & brought it back to me. :D :D :D :D :D Those are some of my favorite earrings! He does the sweetest things. The absolute.sweetest.things. Things I never imagined a husband would do....When he does stuff like this, I feel like the luckiest woman in the whole world. He's my Superman. :-)

Scratch that. He's my Spiderman (his favorite) ;-)

I love you baby. :-)

Meet the World's Longest-Married Couple!

I know I'm a little late on this but....I wanted to post it anyway. Meet Herbert & Zelmyra Fisher, the world's longest living married couple. Herbert and Zelmyra, 104 and 102 years old respectively, were married in 1924 so that means they've been married for 85 years! They'll celebrate 86 years this May which means they're only a year away from having the longest-
marriage in history according to the The Sun.

Here's one of the questions asked & answered via twitter on Valentine's Day.

"What made you realize that you could spend the rest of your lives together? Were you scared at all?"

Herbert & Zelmyra: "With each day that passed, our relationship was more solid and secure. Divorce was NEVER an option - or even a thought."

They're done answering questions right now, but I'm going to keep their twitter as a reference. ;-) I'm hoping they'll come back and answer more questions! Wishful thinking....And we're following them. Go to twitter.com/longestmarried to follow them too! Reading their twitter advice was very comforting to me. I can tell that they are very much still in love with each other. I want us to have what they have. :-)

What is the 80/20 Rule You Say?

I first heard the saying 80/20 for women in Why did I Get Married? It was a great concept. Before the movie, us guys would say ‘no woman is perfect’. That was the saying back then. But now here is my detailed perspective on what 80/20 means:

First, for those people still asking, “What is the 80/20 rule”? This basically means that you will get 80% (at the most) of what you want out of the woman you love/want to be with. So don’t bother reaching for that additional 20%, because again, nobody’s perfect. But then men go out and try to get that 20% and actually find it in another woman. Maybe men will cheat to get this, leave their significant other, or never commit at all because they love that 20% so much (or are just idiots…I’ll let you tell it). But then you lose all that good 80% lovin’…oops! I’ll stick to the G-rated version.

To me, that 20% could probably be physical attractiveness, the ability to control the woman, money, or anything that does not hold value in the long run. So what is the 80%? KD has 80% (I can argue she has even more…). She is smart, funny, has a great personality, great conversation, she supports anything positive I do, I know I can count on her for anything, and I know she will be a great mother!

Other things include her attractiveness (you a dime baby!!!), but I cannot control her and tell her what to do (although I wish I could….j/k) and us put together, we are zillions of dollar away from being rich (KD, I'm going to need you to make this happen!!). But the plus or minus 20% I do not have is OK, because I know what I would be losing, and who in their right mind would pick 20% or 80% anyway???

Now, you do have some men that do not want to commit, and they have their reason, so I would like to clear the airways: I’m not knocking you 20% guys, because truthfully, guys do want to continue to feel free and be able to do whatever they want to do whenever they want to do it and not have to worry about what a woman wants from them. But if you truly are able to find that 80% woman, you can still do what you want to do and be happy. But understand: you do have to honor the woman in your life and treat her they way she is suppose to be treated: like the number one person in your life. I have learned that. Have you? Or do you still want that 20%? For a different perspective, you can read this article.

Were You Friends Before Dating?-K.D.'s View

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Brown Sugar- Dre & Sidney still at the just friends stage

K.D.'s View

I met Reign almost 10 years ago and we were both in relationships. Neither of us was interested in being with the other....we were just friends. Then one day I looked up and Reign was my best friend. :-) I had a few best friends at that time and he was one of them. He would always call me his "best female friend' which I thought was weird....lol.

In my past relationships before the hubs, 2 crucial things had to happen before I "went" with anyone. We had to be good friends first and I had to love you. I was serious and I wasn't playing. I made that rule up when I was in the 10th grade. That was when I encountered my first love. Most of my friends thought it was odd that I had to actually love the guy to be in a actual relationship. You have to know what YOU will deal with and what YOU won't. Other folks may not always agree with you, but you aren't living for them are you? Some people can like a person & start a relationship. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just not me. I didn't take dating lightly and I didn't date lightly. I dated for keeps. I believe I was always looking for my husband. So if I was going to say, "This is my boyfriend", then love not like would have to exist in my heart.

That first kiss that changes the entire dynamics of the friendship... ;-)

Because Reign and I were best friends before even dating, I felt like we had a stronger more honest bond. I mean...I knew this guy. We didn't need a reason to kick it. I can't count how many nights I chilled at Keith's apartment eating pizza and watching Menace II Society. I loved being around him! I really did. :-) We'd been through a lot together as friends. I loved him deeply as a person. I knew his moods, his ways, likes, dislikes, past girls....everything. I didn't have to wait until we got past the newness so the real "him" could show up. He was already there-flaws and all. ;-) And I loved that about our relationship. I look at him now & I can't believe I've been knowing him all of these years. We were just reaching adult hood when we met & now we're grown (but still growing together) and married. He's my confidante. My was there with me at my worst times, been through some flat broke periods, i don't need makeup to impress him, i don't need that weave either, i would rather go through hard times with you than good times without you best friend. I'm so happy we found each other. This is truly the epitome of what Cicely Tyson talked about in Madea's Family Reunion.

So were you friends/best friends with your spouse before dating? If so, how did it affect your bond? If you weren't friends, how did that affect the relationship? I'm curious to see how the wheels turn in other folk's relationships.
